Manga Must Reads #1
I know, I know. I can see your eyes already starting to glaze over with confusion and boredom. I am indeed talking about a manga series. These volumes of Japanese comics have invaded U.S. shores and their popularity shows no signs of slowing down.
I have always been a fan of comic books and within the last few years I have discovered the insanely varied and amazing world of manga (Japanese comics). This is the first in a series of pieces that I will post about manga that I feel is a “cut above” the rest.

DEATH NOTE
Death Note is a (completed) 13-volume series focusing on Light Yagami, an ace student with great prospects who also happens to be bored out of his mind! But all that changes when he finds the Death Note, and notebook dropped by a rougue shinigami death god (yes… a shinigami death god… just go with it). Any human whose name is written in the notebook dies, and now Light has vowed to use the power of the Death Note to rid the world of evil (See… Doesn’t that sound interesting). But when criminals begin dropping dead, the authorities send the legendary detective L to track down the killer. With L hot on his heels, will Light lose sight of his noble goal… or his life?
That is the set-up for a series that is as good if not better than most crime dramas out there. You have a “killer” that is killing “criminals” and now the law has to catch this “killer-of-criminals”. You add the supernatural element to it and it just steps it up a bit more. Needless to say… Twists, turns and surprises galore await you in this fantastic tale.
Check it out. You just might be surprised at how quickly you get caught up in it.
