CHEAP GAMES FOUND!!!

I went poking around in a local game store today and found a great deal. This store mainly deals in Collectible Card Games but they do have a SMALL collection of board games up for grabs. These board games were untouched for a while… The dust was thick on them!
When I showed interest in seeing what they had in stock I was bombarded with INSTANT DISCOUNTS! They went on to explain that the board games were not selling as well as they had anticipated and they wanted to move them out!

BOTTOM LINE:

I purchased a copy of TICKET TO RIDE for 20-bucks (40-dollar sticker)!!!

They had a number of other games that I do not have (and that I do want).
So who knows… If the store’s desire to rid themselves of these dusty boxes remains… I may be back for more later.

ARKHAM HORROR (part 1)

My wife and I are in the process of trying to sort out the very
large-sized and confusing as hell rule book for a new game:

ARKHAM HORROR

Pray for us… This will take a few days!

YINSH

Another day… Another Board Game!

The game that my wife and I played for the first time last night was an abstract-strategy game that goes by the strange name of:

YINSH

The Description:

The players each start with 5 rings on the board. Every time a ring is moved, it leaves a marker behind. Markers are white on one side and black on the other. When markers are jumped over by a ring they must be flipped, so their color is constantly changing. The players must try to form a row of 5 markers with their own color face up. If a player succeeds in doing so, he removes one of his rings as an indication that he has formed such a row. The first player to remove 3 of his rings wins the game. In other words, each row you make brings you closer to victory-but also makes you weaker, because you have one fewer ring to play with. Very tricky!

The Board In Play:

YINSH (distributed by Rio Grande Games ) is a fun and deceptively challenging game that plays rather quickly (about 30 minutes).
We played this game twice last night and my wife wiped the floors with me BOTH TIMES!

We have to play ZOMBIES!!! again… I always beat her at that one (haha)!

ZOMBIES!!!

Here’s another board game that my wife and I have been playing the last couple of days…

ZOMBIES!!!

The Description:

ZOMBIES!!! (published by Twilight Creations Inc.) puts you in the middle of the action as you try to escape the ever advancing zombie hoard.

Players take on the role of a survivor amid city streets sprawling with Zombies and must use a combination of wits and brawn to be the first to the heliport and certain escape.

The only problem is, the zombies are everywhere, they appear to be very hungry and your opponents would really prefer if you didn’t escape.

Movement is determined by dice roll as is combat when the player’s piece is in the same square as a Zombie. Players must conserve bullets and protect their life counters. At the end of the turn a dice roll directs the player to move a number of Zombies one square (becasue they are the slow George Romero type).

First player to reach the center of the Helipad tile and kill the Zombie there, or kill a total of 25 Zombies wins. When a player is killed they move back to the starting tile and loose half their Zombie kills.

Board In Play:

ZOMBIES!!! is a simple yet addicting game that we have quickly grown to love.

In addition to the core-game… Twilight Creations has released 6 expansion sets that extend the landscape of the ZOMBIES!!! world.

Mr. Jack

May I present a very cool board game that the wife and I played this weekend:

Mr. Jack

The Description:

One of the two players represents Jack the Ripper, who will be one of the 8 characters on the board. This player knows the identity of this character and his goal is to flee from the district as soon as possible (or avoid being accused for eight turns). The other player represents an independent investigator (not represented on the board) who tries to guess the identity of Jack. But he can make only one accusation during the game!

During each turn the players move the characters, using their special powers, placing them either in shadow or light. At the end of each turn, the witnesses declare if Jack is visible (in light, or adjacent to another character) or not (alone in the shadows). This allows the investigator to know which characters are innocent. This continues as the investigator tries to eliminate suspects while Jack tries to escape. Intuition, logic and cold blood will be necessary for each of the two participants.

Board In Play:

Mr. Jack (Published by Hurrican Games ) is a very good two-player game that plays pretty quick (about 30-minutes) and is tons of fun.
